FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What level should I register for?

Our recommendations are outlined below, but if you feel a discussion with a team member will better guide you, please email us at info@artemotionballetschool.com.

Beginner Level: No experience is required. We suggest dancers with 0-2 years of experience. This level will focus on terminology and technique to ensure your safety. Classes operate at a slow pace to ensure you are receiving the information we feel is important you leave with to be successful at your home studios. Many in this class are true Beginners. If you feel you are at the level to be able to get through a proper barre with no problems, we suggest registering for the Intermediate level.

Intermediate Level: 2-3 years experience. This level is designed for dancers who are ready for a push beyond the Beginner level. You should have a clear understanding of barre terminology. We do not expect your center repertoire to be vast and will focus on introducing new steps to you. The pace for the class may start slowly at the beginning of the week but start to get faster towards the end of the week to push your bodies and minds.

Intermediate Advanced: 4+ years of experience. Dancers at this level should have a clear understanding of ballet terminology at both the barre and in center. It is suggested you come prepared to be pushed cardiovascularly, as the class pace will be faster than the Intermediate level. In our experience, many dancers at this level have been Advanced at some point in their lives, but need a slower pace for their body’s safety. Mentally, this level will be pushed closer to the Advanced track because of their understanding of terminology and technique.

Advanced: 5+ years of experience. This level will operate at a professional pace. Dancers are required to be fully versed in ballet terminology. We explain this best as, if a teacher didn’t show a combination full out, but explained it with words only, you’d be able to execute the combination with no problems.

What is the best option for accommodations?

In 2024, we will be using multiple venues during the week. Classes will primarily be held at the Marriot Center for Dance on campus at the University of Utah. On Saturday, June 1st classes will be held at Ballet West, and the performance will be a the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. The University is a 10-minute drive east from the center of the city and from the Ballet West studios and the Rose Wagner. Most dancers prefer to book AirBNB accommodations to be comfortable and to be able to cook meals. There is a public bus system called TRAX that is available and will easily get you from the University to downtown, cheaply. If you are renting a car, parking is available at locations. We suggest searching for a place to stay near either of these two locations and finding what best suits your needs.

JESSIE ECCLES QUINEY BALLET CENTRE Location: 52 W 200 S, SLC, UT 84101

MARRIOTT CENTER FOR DANCE Location: 330 S 1500 E, SLC, UT 84112

What are class sizes? Are you permitted to take other levels’ classes during the week?

We will cap all classes at 30 dancers. To ensure safety and to make sure dancers are getting the attention they deserve, you will not be able to take another level’s class for ballet, pointe, and variations classes. If you wish to take another level’s class for Jazz, Modern, or Contemporary, you can make a request during the week by emailing info@artemotionballetschool.com. If there is room in the class, your request may be accommodated, but there are no guarantees.

Are private lessons available?

Yes! We will have a private lesson signup available and it will be sent out one week prior to the program. We also plan to have a massage therapist onsite. Both private lessons and massages will be additional costs to the participant.

Is parking available and how much should I expect to pay?

Parking downtown can range from $4.00 an hour on the street, to $40 a day in a parking garage. The University of Utah has hourly parking available outside the studios at $3.00 an hour or $30 daily.

When will the week’s official schedule be sent to participants?

You will receive your finalized schedule for the program, one week before the commencement.

What dance attire is required?

We encourage participants to wear what they feel most comfortable in, as long as they can move easily in it. If you are a full-day participant, you will need a black leotard and black skirt for the show. Pink or flesh-colored tights and shoes that match are also required for the show. We highly suggest all dancers have ballet flats for safety, not socks. Pointe classes are geared for all dancers, even those not en pointe, who can use it as an ankle-strengthening class. If you are coming with pointe shoes, we suggest two pairs (at least), one soft pair and one new pair. Jazz shoes are welcomed, but not required for jazz. Modern and contemporary classes can be taken barefoot or in ballet shoes or toe socks.

What is the refund policy?

All deposits are non-refundable and non-negotiable. All participants are required to pay the deposit to save their spot. On April 1st, 2024, all remaining balances will be charged automatically to the card on file in iClass Pro unless we receive an email to info@artemotionballetschool.com with a DROP ENROLLMENT REQUEST. No refunds will be accommodated unless due to injury. In the case of injury, you will need to provide a valid doctor’s excuse for a refund to be considered. No refunds will be considered due to unforeseen illness.

What is the most effective way to get in contact with you?

Please email us! Calling and texts are available but we spend most of our day in the studio, and it’s hard to reply. Please use info@artemotionballetschool.com to direct all inquiries.

What is the weather going to be like in Salt Lake City?

Salt Lake City is a high desert. In May/June, the only thing we can guarantee is that it will be DRY! So, we encourage a lot of water and electrolytes. In terms of temperature, it is always unclear until the time. We suggest checking the weather right before you pack to come.

Where can I buy dance supplies in Salt Lake City if I need them?

Pat’s Dancewear will be ONSITE at the program! If they don’t have what you need, you can order it from them and they will deliver it to you!

Are there great places to eat and unwind?

Yes! Salt Lake City is growing quickly, and there are many new restaurants and bars available to frequent.
